The pathway to becoming a motorist in Dubai has become a lot easier with the introduction of a new smart yard initiative by the Roads and Transport Authority. This will henceforth serve as a key stage in testing those who apply for a driving license in Dubai. The yard which will have sophisticated technical devices and a testing vehicle is expected to facilitate more accurate and credible testing of candidates who are trying to get a driving license in Dubai.
Speaking about the initiative, Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said that the smart yard will have five surveillance cameras, of which four will be outside the vehicle and will be used to guide the candidate taking the driving test to the sites for the five maneuvers. The fifth camera which will be used to verify the identity of the driver will be installed on board the test vehicle. There will be no compromise when it comes to the safety of the occupant as the vehicle will have over 20 sensors that can help the examinee to avoid collision in case of any mishap.
The yard too will have several sensors that will be used to capture and transmit images of the test drive as the vehicle passes by the sensors. The images will be sent to a a processor. This processor will identify the mistakes made by the driver and the captured images will then be sent on to an interactive screen in a control tower located in the testing yard where the videos and images can be viewed by staff to assess the examinee.
The smart yard will make it possible to monitor more than one examinee at a time and this means that the number of examiners can be reduced by as much as 35 per cent. One serious issue that applicants for a driving license face in Dubai is long waiting time for tests and to get classes. The use of the smart yard will make it possible to handle more applicants and thus reduce the waiting lists. It will also lead to a bias free testing system and minimize the possibility of controversial results due to mistakes on the part of examiners as the mistakes made by the examinees can be clearly monitored and reviewed.
