Aston Martin CEO, Andy Palmer has revealed that he will personally inspect the first 1000 DB-11s to come off the production line. He recently tweeted that the engine of each of the first 1000 cars will bear an inspector’s plaque with his signature to confirm to the new owners that they will be getting a flawless vehicle. The inspection is not just a formality but will involve a 60 minute check of all aspects of the vehicle. The Gaydon plant of Aston Martin is expected to commence production of the DB-11 in October. With the plant turning out 12 cars on a daily basis, Palmer will definitely have his hands full as he will need 12 hours every day to inspect the daily production.
Palmer will definitely have extra interest in the success of the DB-11 as it is the first all-new vehicle to be manufactured by Aston Martin after he took over as the CEO of the company in 2014. The DB9, which debuted in 2003 was the last all-new vehicle and all the subsequent Aston Martin models were built using the DB9’s scalable platform. The DB range is Aston Martin’s most popular line and the success of the DB11, which is the 10th vehicle in the series will be crucial to the future outlook for the British auto manufacturer.
Another automotive CEO who was in the news for his personal touch was Elon Musk. During the production of the Tesla Model X, he reportedly slept on the factory floor in a sleeping bag.
