Bentley has debuted the new edition of the Continental GT Speed, and it sets new benchmarks when it comes to performance and exclusivity. The new Continental GT Speed is the fastest production Bentley ever, and has a top speed of 206 mph (331 km/h), and the Speed family has a new member, the striking new Black Edition model joins the Speed family.
The output of the 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine of the new Continental GT Speed has increased by 7 PS to 642 PS, while the torque has increased by 20 Nm to reach 840 Nm. Acceleration has become even more powerful with careful reoptimisation of boost control to apply the additional torque and this has decreased the time to go from 0-60 mph to just 3.9 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.1 secs).
The Continental GT Speed Black Edition celebrates the sporting aspect of the GT Speed and is available as both a coupe and as a convertible. The most distinctive aspect of this model is the high gloss black finish to the exterior, including the window openings and the lamp bezels. The all-black 21” five-spoke directional wheels cover distinctive brake calipers, which are available in both red and black finishes. The Black Edition offers customers a choice of Hallmark, Cyber Yellow, Beluga and St. James Red as contrast colors for the front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser. Customers can even choose to have the door mirrors finished in matching shades for the ultimate finishing touch.
The interiors repeat the same distinctive combination of dark tones and vivid highlights continues. Carbon fiber is used to lend black accents to the fascia, center and roof consoles while the seats and center consoles are bordered by contrasting leather in Cyber Yellow, Porpoise, Pillar Box Red, or Beluga to match the exterior combination. Contrast stitching is used to accentuate the diamond quilting of the doors and Mulliner GT Design seats.
Paul Jones, Product Line Director for Continental GT, commented that Bentley has developed the GT Speed Black Edition to cater to the demand from customers for a model from the Continental range that emphasizes the model’s sporty aspect and offers instantly recognisable styling cues. He concluded, “The Black Edition has a subtle but purposeful look that is backed up by exceptional performance.”
Bentley is one the top brands in the luxury segment and this is borne out by the fact that it takes a team of expert craftsmen 110 hours to handfinish each and every Continental GT at the Bentley factory in Crewe, Cheshire. 30 dedicated technicians take 12.5 hours to assemble the upgraded W12 engine and install it in a Continental GT Speed model. The interiors too get the same level of meticulous attention from experts in Bentley’s Leather and Trim workshop. Each hide is carefully checked by hand and eye before being stitched, shaped and finished entirely by hand, rivalling the quality of the finest furniture and precise tolerances of jewellery and watch craftsmanship.
Bentley is taking bookings for the new GT Speed and GT Speed Black Edition models and deliveries will begin this summer.
