Leading car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini has said that it is converting departments of its super sports car production plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese as part of the effort to make surgical masks and protective plexiglass shields at the facility. The masks made at the plant will be donated by the carmaker to tbe used in the treatment of COVID-19 patients at the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital in Bologna.
The work related to the production of the masks and the plexiglass shields will be performed by the employees of the saddlery that makes the interiors and specialty customisation for Lamborghini cars. They expect to make 1,000 masks on a daily basis. The unit also expects to make 200 units of medical shields every day, using 3D printers within the carbon fiber production plant and the Research and Development department.
The production activity has already received the approval and support of the Emilia-Romagna Region, and is being carried out in collaboration with the University of Bologna. The Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences has been tasked with supervising the validation testing of the medical devices made by Lamborghini, prior to their delivery to hospital.
Commenting on the project, Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said that the company felt the need to make a concrete contribution during this emergency situation. The S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital is an institution with which Lamborghini has had a collaborative relationship for years, through both professional consultancy in promoting programs to protect the health of Lamborghini employees, and in research projects. He went on to pledge the company’s support for those who are at the frontlines of fighting this pandemic on a daily basis.
As a sign of unity and support for the entire nation facing the Coronavirus emergency, every evening Lamborghini lights up the historic headquarter buildings in Sant’Agata Bolognese, with the colors of the Italian flag.
