Mitsubishi came up with a new fully loaded SUV that is set to be a gamechanger in its segment – the All-new Montero Sport. The model was recently launched in the UAE by the Japanese company’s official distributor in the country, Al Habtoor Motors. In order to showcase the ability of the vehicle to tackle all kinds of terrain and challenges, the launch was held in the presence of a specially invited audience at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, where the invitees test drove the Montero Sport over challenging terrain to gain an in-depth understanding of the new class leading SUV.
The all-new Montero Sport, a mid-size SUV was developed based on the premise of a “Stylish & Comfortable Off-road SUV”. The Montero has truly lived up to this concept with its combination of high performance, comfortable interiors, refined exterior, wide range of safety features and outstanding environmental performance.
When it come to looks, the all-new Montero Sport uses Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s new “Dynamic Shield” front face design concept. The exterior design involves the use of both sporty and dynamic elements to differentiate the Montero Sport from other cross-country SUVs. The interior is notable for the high console proportion dashboard that is normally only seen in larger SUVs, while the sculpted seats and the silver-finish ornamentation add a touch of class.
In the Montero Sport, a powerful 3.0-liter V6 MIVEC engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for better fuel efficiency and a smoother, more comfortable ride. Motorists benefit from greater convenience due to cruise control and the sporty paddle shifters which allows them to shift gears without removing their hand from the steering wheel.
The all-new Montero Sport comes with comprehensive active and passive safety features. The impact of a collision is minimized with MMC’s own RISE*3 impact safety body design and as many as seven SRS airbags.
Active safety features a Blind Spot Warning System making the Montero the first Mitsubishi model to have one, Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM), and the Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS). Many advanced features like an electric parking brake (another Mitsubishi first), fully automatic climate control setting permitting different temperatures for the driver and front seat passenger and Multi-around Monitor make the ride highly comfortable .
The all-new Monetro Sport uses a further-evolved version of MMC’s own Super-Select 4WD-II four-wheel drive system. This is complemented by the new Off-road Mode (first on a Mitsubishi model), which gives even better all-terrain performance and stability as the road surface requires, and by Hill Descent Control (first on a Mitsubishi model). When the HDC mode selector is pressed, it activates HDC. This feature automatically applies the brakes to stabilize the current speed while moving downhill at 2 km/h – 20 km/h. Hence, the driver can concentrate on steering and go downhill with greater safety without worrying about manually applying the brakes.
The advanced suspension, outstanding all-around clearance, selectable 2WD and 4WD modes, an OFF ROAD MODE and intelligent assistance in challenging conditions lend precision and stability to the handling, irrespective of weather and driving conditions.
Drivers can use the drive mode selector dial to toggle between 2WD (2H) and 4WD (4H, 4HLc) at speeds up to 100km/h. For really tough terrain, motorists can opt ng gets rough, the driver can opt to lock the center differential by entering the 4HLc setting for rugged terrain or the 4LLc setting for inclines, mud and sand.
The Active Stability & Traction Control feature regulates the braking force applied to the wheels during cornering in order to stabilize the vehicle. It also increase traction and minimizes torque in the event the wheels spin by regulating the engine and applying braking force when needed.
Adding to its maneuverability, the Montero Sport offers a class-leading 5.6m turning radius, which is surprisingly small for a vehicle of this size, making it especially easy to park and drive.
The high-end LED headlamps, daytime running lights and dynamic LED rear combination lights takes the Montero Sport one step above other ordinary SUVs.
The prices of the all-new Montero Sport start from AED 89,900 for the baseline variant to AED 107,000 for the fully loaded premium highline variant.
