Since the term ‘robot’ first made its way into the annals of literature back in 1921, the idea of a robot butler has pervaded the world of science fiction as an expression of human desire for an automated helper and the boundless possibilities that technology could have for us. NXROBO—a Shenzhen-based consumer electronics and interactive robotics start-up have brought the robot butler from science fiction to reality with the BIG-i robot butler, an interactive automaton that can be personalized for you and your family.
Standing at about two and a half feet tall and weighing in at a little over 12 kg, BIG-i features a friendly, approachable and innocuous fabric-covered design that packs in a suite of truly futuristic technologies. The BIG-i features the company’s own custom NXROBO OS, voice programming and learning capabilities that allow you to teach the robot to integrate into your home and living environment. Powered by a quad-core processor, the robot also features a 720p HD camera, and a 3D visual system, a 360-degree microphone array, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The robot is available in four fabric colors to match the mood and aesthetics of your home.
BIG-i combines face recognition, auto-navigation, auto-localization, motion sensing, and mapping technologies with video and audio call functions, a built-in encyclopedia, obstacle avoidance and sensors for light, temperature, humidity, acceleration, gyroscopic, and haptic functions. This complex suite of technologies gives the BIG-i the ability to integrate into the home by making you the primary user while learning of your relationships with other people in the home. The robot is able to connect with other compatible smart devices, allowing you to schedule cleaning based on your presence or absence such as cleaning or television playback. The BIG-i’s reminder functions also respond to visual stimuli such as household alerts to members of your family as well as locating people and gadgets. The construction and programming of the robot offer you endless possibilities such as substituting for your cell phone, placing orders for takeout, turning on the television when you are relaxing on the couch, or playing a pre-selected song for a special occasion. BIG-i recognizes the natural order of a family and prioritizes your requests over those of others, ensuring that your orders are not countermanded.
BIG-i is safe around children and represents the next generation of interactive household electronics that are an innovative step towards making the fascinating wonders of science fiction a reality.
