With the advent of winter, it is desert safari season again. Though it is almost a rite of passage for all visitors to Dubai to go for a desert safari, there a few longtime residents who have not ever gone for one. Whether you are a long time resident or a visitor to Dubai, whether you have not ever gone on a desert safari or are a veteran of several such trips, we can all agree that it is an experience that truly is all about enjoying the desert this country is famous for. Here are a few tips to make your desert safari experience as smooth and comfortable as possible:

1. Have a light meal before you go on the trip: Desert safaris are usually held in the evening and it would advisable to have an early and light meal before going for the trip. Though the drivers on these dune bashing trips are highly skilled, the ride can get to be quite bumpy and some people can experience nausea.
2. Wear Open Footwear: Going to the desert means sand, and plenty of it. Sand will get into everything including your shoes and socks. Hence, it would be better to wear sandals or open shoes as you will be getting into and out of the vehicles and moving around quite a bit.
3. Wear Comfortable Clothing: Wear clothing that is loose and comfortable. The atmosphere is quite casual and most of the others on the trip are likely to be tourists as well. There is no need to bother with highly formal or restrictive clothing.
4. Take Along Some Warm Clothing: Make sure you take along a light sweater and hats as it gets to be quite chilly in the evenings sometimes.
5. Carry Some Loose Change: You are likely to need some change you want to buy anything that is not included as part of the package, whether it is for souvenirs or for trying the shisha.
6. Don’t Forget Your Camera: Make sure you take your smartphone or camera along for all the touristy pictures like those of you in local costumes, posing on a camel etc.
