GAC Aion Ray 7, the “Half-Priced Xiaomi SU7,” Launches November 12 With Huawei LiDAR and a 702 km Range

Chinese media have nicknamed it the “half-priced Xiaomi SU7,” and it is about to go on sale. GAC Aion has confirmed that its new electric sedan, the Ray 7, launches in China on 12 November 2026. Pre-sales have been open since 17 October, and the price is eye-catching: from about AED 70,512 (US$19,200).

Quick Highlights

  • China market launch: 12 November 2026
  • Pre-sale prices: 128,800 to 158,800 yuan, about AED 70,512 to AED 87,038 (US$19,200 to US$23,700)
  • Claimed CLTC range of up to 702 km
  • Huawei 192-line LiDAR and 27 sensors
  • Drag coefficient of 0.22

What Is the GAC Aion Ray 7?

The Ray 7 is a fastback electric sedan measuring 4,960 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,455 mm tall, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase. The front has a full-width light bar and an illuminated logo, the door handles are semi-hidden and the car wears yellow brake callipers. GAC Aion says the drag coefficient is just 0.22, a very slippery figure.

Range and Powertrain

The Ray 7 uses GAC’s “Super Electric” powertrain, which combines Huawei’s DriveONE electric drive with GAC’s 28-in-1 thermal management module. Power consumption is quoted at 9.7 kWh per 100 km on China’s CLTC test cycle. There are two batteries, both lithium iron phosphate:

  • 530 km CLTC (about 429 km WLTP) with GAC’s own Inpow cells
  • 702 km CLTC (about 569 km WLTP) with CATL cells

CLTC figures are very optimistic. The WLTP estimates are closer to what drivers should expect, and real-world range will be lower still.

Smart Driving Hardware

The driver-assistance system uses 27 automotive-grade sensors, including a Huawei 192-line LiDAR and three 4D millimetre-wave radars. It runs on a model derived from WeRide’s Level 4 robotaxi technology, designed to handle complex city environments, with automated parking and gate navigation. As with all such systems, the driver remains responsible.

Is It Coming to the UAE?

GAC is already sold in the UAE, but I found no announcement of the Ray 7 for the UAE or other export markets. The prices above are Chinese pre-sale prices and are not UAE prices. Taxes, specifications and local positioning would change them.

Strong Momentum for GAC Aion

GAC Aion reported 42,357 sales in October 2026, up almost 57% on last year and about 19% on the previous month.

Final Thoughts

If the Ray 7 delivers on its numbers, it will put serious pressure on pricier electric sedans. The key question for UAE buyers is whether it arrives here, and at what price. Would you buy it? Tell us in the comments.
