Jaguar Unveils the Type 01: A 1,000 PS Electric GT That Marks the Brand’s Fresh Start

Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, a four-door electric grand tourer and the first production car of its all-electric reinvention. It packs around 1,000 PS, an 850-volt electrical system and a claimed 400 miles of range, with orders opening in 2027.

The reveal

Jaguar showed the Type 01 at an event in New York on 6 October 2026. It is the production version of the Type 00 concept that divided opinion when it appeared in late 2024. Jaguar is selling no cars at the moment after ending its previous petrol and electric lineup, which makes the Type 01 the first new model of the brand’s reset.

The name carries meaning. “Type” nods to Jaguar’s historic models, the zero stands for zero tailpipe emissions, and the one marks the first of a new generation.

Performance and range

  • Power: around 1,000 PS (roughly 986 bhp) from three electric motors, with a combined 758 kW and 1,365 Nm of torque. It is the most powerful production Jaguar ever made.
  • 0-62 mph: 3.2 seconds
  • Battery: 118 kWh
  • Range: up to 400 miles (about 644 km) on the EPA cycle
  • Architecture: 850 volts, a step above the 800-volt systems in most high-end EVs

The Type 01 is the first car on Jaguar’s new dedicated platform, the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), and is built in Solihull, UK.

Design

The Type 01 is long and low, about 5.2 metres in length and only 1.4 metres tall, which puts it firmly in grand tourer territory. It keeps the long bonnet and rear-leaning stance of classic Jaguars, with slim, four-part headlights as a signature. Jaguar says the aim was to avoid the look of identical, rounded EVs.

Price and timing

Orders open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of that year. Pricing starts from £130,000, approximately $173,000 or approximately AED 635,000. A trade report puts the expected price at around €165,000.

Currency conversions are estimates for reference only, based on roughly 1.33 USD per pound and 3.67 AED per USD.

What it means for the Gulf

Jaguar has not announced Middle East availability, pricing or timing for the Type 01. The UAE is a strong market for high-end grand tourers, and at around AED 635,000 the Type 01 would sit against the Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS, so regional buyers will be watching for confirmation. A luxury electric SUV is also expected to follow the GT.
