Nissan used the recent CES Asia show to showcase its vision for the future of mobility. The Japanese auto manufacturer highlighted its futuristic technologies including those that accessed brain waves and merged the real and virtual worlds to assist drivers.
Called Invisible-to-Visible (I2V), the technology that merges the real and virtual worlds makes it possible to see objects or people that are “invisible” as they are around a corner or behind a building. The technology employs data drawn from sensors inside and outside the car as well as from the cloud to help motorists gain a better understanding of what is happening in the immediate area and even what is ahead of them. Thus, they would feel more confident on the road. I2V employs several technologies: ProPILOT delivers information about the environment around the vehicle; Omni-Sensing technology provides real-time traffic data; and SAM (Seamless Autonomous Mobility) technology analyzes real-time data about the road environment. Nissan had recently conducted field tests of this system at its proving ground in Yokosuka, Japan, using 5G mobile communications technology. Visitors to the CES Asia show got a chance to experience this technology through an interactive, 3-D immersion experience at Nissan’s display.
Nissan’s Brain-to-Vehicle (B2V) technology is the first such technology in the world and interprets the driver’s brain signals to assist with driving. The B2V has the capability to anticipate the driver’s reactions so that it can initiate maneuvers more quickly. It can also learn from the driver and make adjustments to reduce discomfort.
Nissan used a driving simulator at CES Asia 2019 to demonstrate aspects of B2V for visitors.
At the show, Nissan displayed the electric, all-wheel-drive IMs concept car, which was launched at the 2019 North American International Auto Show. The concept car is an all-wheel-drive electric concept car that essentially signifies a new vehicle segment – the “elevated sports sedan.” The IMs incorporates all aspects of Nissan Intelligent Mobility with regard to packaging, platform and powertrain technology. It’s also the first concept car featuring I2V.
All the three displays helped the visitors to the show helped the customers to gain insight into Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s vision for transform how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society.
Commenting on Nissan’s participation in the show, Roel De Vries, senior vice president for marketing at Nissan said that Nissan’s aim is to always stay ahead of the curve.
He said, “We don’t just anticipate future trends and technologies, we define them. We believe technology should solve real-world problems and benefit as many people as possible. This is the idea behind Nissan Intelligent Mobility, our vision for moving people to a better world.”
“China is the most exciting market in the world, especially when it comes to technology, so it makes sense for us to showcase these Nissan Intelligent Mobility developments at CES Asia,” said Senior Vice President Makoto Uchida, chairman of Nissan’s management committee for China. ”By developing these technologies, we’ll make our customers’ lives better and ensure sustainable growth for our business.”
CES Asia 2019 was held from June 11 to 13 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) and the Kerry Hotel in the Pudong New Area, Shanghai.
