Mann+Hummel has developed a new air filter medium that is made of recycled synthetic fibers. According to Dr Till Batt, expert in synthetic air filter elements at Mann+Hummel, one square meter of the filter medium contains plastic that is sourced from about two 1.5-liter PET bottles. The filter thus represents a significant advance in terms of sustainability and conservation of resources. He said the company’s aim is now to raise the amount of recycled fibers in new developments to 80 percent.
The new Mann-Filter C 24 005 air filter exhibits outstanding performance in terms of filtration due to the use of the new multi-layer Micrograde A-S medium which removes at least 99.5 percent of dirt particles ranging in size from 0.001 – 0.352 millimeters. Considering that a human hair measures 0.05-0.07 millimetres, this filter is truly powerful. It also has a high dirt holding capacity throughout the entire service interval, and hence requires only 30 percent of the filter medium area of traditional air filters based on cellulose media.
The C 24 005 meets the replacement intervals prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer even under dusty conditions, and is notable for its flame-retardant properties.
In terms of appearance, the C 24 005 looks different when compared to other air filters, as its recycled fibers have a green color. The new Mann-Filter C 24 005 air filter will be available in OE quality at the retail level in the European market from November 2017 for various Toyota models. The company is also working on air filters with more innovative technology.
