Ford not only has a wide range of models to suit consumers of every category, but is also a front runner when it comes to innovative technologies for car buyers. Here are five driving habits that can get you in trouble and technologies that Ford has developed to help keep you safe and alert on the road: . 1. Speeding: Speeding is one of the most common cause of accidents in the UAE. Ford MyKey® offers an industry-first technology that allows owners to limit the top speed, and to prevent the deactivation of driver assistance technologies, when you lend your vehicle to others. The Adaptive Cruise Control is another feature that drivers can use to help control speed. When using the adaptive cruise control, the car’s built-in radar sensor detects traffic ahead and slows the car down to maintain a pre-set safe distance. Once the traffic has cleared up, the vehicle will return to its pre-set speed.
2. Lane Discipline: This is another area for which drivers get numerous fines and end up in accidents in the UAE. The Ford’s Lane-Keeping system can help you avoid instances of drifting into another lane. In ‘Alert’ mode, Ford’s Lane Keeping system sends three short vibrations to the steering wheel to inform drivers that they are moving out of their lane. When it is in ‘Aid’ mode, the system provides steering assistance to help the driver bring back the driver into the lane. The Driver Alert System can also pull in data from the Lane-Keeping system to detect signs of driver fatigue and provide a warning on the dashboard.
3. Using a Mobile Phone: Using a mobile phone can be highly distracting and can even cause fatal accidents. Ford’s all-new SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system allows drivers to focus on the road while staying connected with hands-free, Siri Eyes-Free features and easy integration of both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It supports both text and voice activation.
4. Tailgating: Tailgating is another common cause of accidents in the UAE and this is where Ford’s Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support comes in. It is meant to alert the driver that there is a high probability of an imminent front-end collision. The system prepares the brakes for aggressive application if the driver springs into action. Active City Stop is another advanced feature that can minimize or help avoid the impact of low-speed collisions as it detects cars that may have stopped unexpectedly and automatically applies the car’s brakes. The award-winning technology is designed to work at speeds up to 50 km/h on selected Ford vehicles.
5. Protecting other Motorists and Pedestrians: BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) monitors lanes either side of the vehicle and alerts motorists when something has moved into areas that are difficult to see. Small warning lights in the side mirrors inform drivers about the approaching traffic, so that they can take pre-emptive action. Cross-Traffic Alert can warn drivers of vehicles that are approaching from the sides as they reverse, to avoid backend collisions when exiting a carpark. The 360-degree camera with split view is another device that helps with reversing.
