The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., is pleased to announce that a vehicle equipped with its GEOLANDAR SD offroad tires sold in overseas markets finished first in the Pro UTV Open class* of the SCORE SAN FELIPE 250, held from March 30 to April 3 in the Mexican state of Baja California. * A class for multipurpose four-wheeled vehicles with unlimited displacement
The SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 is the opening race of the 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship SERIES of four races including the Baja 1000, which is widely considered to be the most brutal off-road race in the world. The SAN FELIPE 250 is run over a 280-mile (approx. 450km) rugged desert course filled with sharp rocks and potholes.
The Pro UTV Open class was won by Wayne Matlock, who started in the pole position and finished the course 6 hours and 8 minutes, the fastest time for any vehicle in several UTV classes and more than 15 minutes ahead of the second-place finisher. His victory was supported by the GEOLANDAR SD tires’ superb durability and performance on the rugged terrain. The victorious vehicle in last year’s Pro UTV NA class* also ran on YOKOHAMA tires. * A class for multipurpose vehicles (Normally Aspirated UTVs) equipped with naturally aspirated engines
Under Yokohama Rubber’s three-year (2021–2023) medium-term management plan, Yokohama Transformation 2023 (YX2023), the consumer tire business aims to maximize the sales ratios of high-value-added YOKOHAMA tires, namely the global flagship ADVAN brand, the GEOLANDAR brand of tires for SUVs and pickup trucks, and various winter tires. YX2023 also positions participation in motorsports activities as crucial to the company’s effort to develop new tire technologies that will further strengthen the ADVAN and GEOLANDAR brands. Yokohama Rubber therefore is again participating in a wide variety of motorsports events in Japan and around the globe, from top-category to grassroots events.
