Leading tire manufacturer, Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has announced its US sales and marketing subsidiary Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) has signed a sponsorship deal with leading US Major League Baseball team, the Los Angeles Angels. The agreement will cover three seasons from 2018 to 2020 (including playoffs) and Yokohama will benefit from the display of Yokohama logo the home base of the Los Angeles Angels, the Angel Stadium.
YTC had initially signed a partnership with the Angels in 2011 as part of its drive to boost brand awareness in North America and to contribute to local communities. With the signing of the new three-year sponsorship agreement, the partnership with the Angels will increase to a full decade. The recent acquisition of Japanese player, Shohei Ohtani has drawn even more attention to the team from Southern California and it is expected to receive plenty of media coverage in the 2018 season.
The Los Angeles Angels joined Major League Baseball in 1961 as an expansion team and have won nine American League Western Division Championships, hosted three All-Star games and won the 2002 World Series Championship. Over the past 57 years, the team has had four MVP’s, two Cy Young winners, two Rookie of the Year winners, 37 Rawlings Gold Glove winners and 154 All-Stars. The angels is not the only sports team that Yokohama Rubber is supporting as part of its bid to increase brand awareness. The company has been a proud sponsor of the Chelsea Football Club of English Premier League from July 2015. In Japan, it sponsors the PRGR Ladies Cup golf tournament and supports the Team UKYO road cycling team.
