The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced that it has developed a new tyre named “BluEarth-air EF21”. The tyre is based on the most advanced technologies and the latest design techniques for reducing the environmental impact and weight of tyres. The tyre was specially developed to commemorate Yokohama’s 100th anniversary and will be sold in Japan on a limited basis this year in one developmental size, 205/55R16 91V.
In order to make a more environmentally friendly tire, Yokohama Rubber used its latest design techniques to come up with a lighter tire that can help conserve resources by using less material. It thus improves fuel efficiency by reducing the overall vehicle weight. The BluEarth-air EF21 tyre is not only light, but has a thin yet highly rigid structure. The tyre manufacturer achieved a weight reduction of about 25 per cent in the tire’s mass when compared to ADVAN dB V551. The tire also demonstrated excellent wet and fuel-efficient performance through the use of a newly developed special compound and Yokohama Rubber’s state-of-the-art rubber mixing technology, Advanced Reaction Technology in Mixing. When it comes to rolling resistance and wet grip performance, tthe BluEarth-air EF21 received a “AAA” grade for rolling resistance and an “a” grade for wet grip performance, which are the highest grades awarded under Japan’s tire labeling system.
Yokohama will be making the global debut of the BluEarth-air EF21 at the YOKOHAMA booth during the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, which will be held at the Tokyo Big Sight from October 25 to November 5.
BluEarth is a YOKOHAMA global tyre brand based on the concept of “environmentally, human, and socially friendly”. Other tyres belonging to the BluEarth range include BluEarth-A, which combines excellent wet performance with high fuel efficiency, the BluEarth RV-02 which is positioned as a fuel-efficient tyre for minivans and CUVs and the BluEarth-Es, a standard fuel-efficient tyre.
