Yokohama announced that it has got its first OE fitment from BMW – for the new X3. The Japanese tire manufacturer will be supplying its flagship “Advan Sport V105” tires to the BMW Group for use on the new X3 model. The new BMW X3 was launched in the North American market in November 2017 and is slated to be launched in other markets around the world in a staggered manner.
The BMW X3 will have Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 tires in one of two sizes—225/60R18 104W or 245/50R19 105W. The 245/50R19 105W tire is a run-flat tire. Yokohama worked closely with the BMW Group for getting this OE fitment and both tires bear BMW’s star mark of approval on their sidewalls. This is the first time that the BMW Group has chosen tires from Yokohama as OE fitment for a BMW model and BMW opted for this tire after a series of rigorous tests which evaluated the tire base don several criteria like dry and wet traction, braking comfort, braking and tread life.
The “Advan Sport V105” is positioned as a high-performance tire that is meant to be used on high-power premium automobiles. The main characteristics of the tire are its ability to deliver high levels of comfort and safety in addition to excellent driving performance. BMW chose this tire on the basis of its innovative features like the matrix rayon belt that improves the tire’s resistance to damage, the strong shoulder blocks which give it better cornering, the groove technology which makes the ride smooth and quiet and the ultra high traction tread compound.
The Advan Sport V105” also comes factory-installed on topline high-performance models from other leading car manufacturers. The new BMW X3 is billed as a rival for Audi’s Q5 and the GLC from Mercedes in the luxury SUV segment.
