Pirelli has intensified its drive to promote reading by opening two new company libraries. This brings the total number of company libraries to three – one for each of its locations in Italy. The company already had a library at its site in Settimo Torinese. The two new libraries have been opened at the tire manufacturer’s headquarters in Biococca in Milan and at the company’s factory in Bollate.
Pirelli is the main partner for #ioleggoperché 2016, the campaign promoting reading organised by the Associazione Italiana Editori (AIE) and the company decided to open the two new libraries as part of its drive to focus on the development of activities to promote and create company and school libraries. Pirelli executive vice-chairman and chief executive officer Marco Tronchetti Provera presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony of the library located at Pirelli’s headquarters.
The two new libraries in Milan and Bollate will initially have a stock of about 3, 500 volumes, and this is expected to become more than double by the time inventory is complete. The first 1000 books for the libraries were chosen by the company’s employees while those donated by the company’s RSU, those acquired by the company , books selected by the Fondazione Pirelli, custodian of the Pirelli archive accounted for the rest.
