From its global supply chain which includes over 10,000 business, Pirelli chose to honor Nine companies at its Supplier Awards 2018 function. The suppliers were carefully selected for the awards on the basis of their innovation, sustainability and quality of service. The focus was on selecting those suppliers who contributed to making the Pirelli supply chain even more sustainable and thus ramped up qualitative excellence, with the outcome being more high value Pirelli products. The awards for the winners were presented by Chief Purchasing Officer Matteo Battaini and Chief Sustainability and Risk Governance Officer Filippo Bettini at a gala event held at Pirelli’s headquarters in Milan, Italy.
The awards were given to nine suppliers in the field of raw materials, services and machinery. According to Pirelli, it is the first company in the automotive industry to comply with the UNI ISO 20400 rule on sustainable purchasing. This ISO guideline is the most important international one when it comes to supply chain sustainable governance, as part of which the economic, social and environmental responsibility are integrated into the company’s strategies, organization and purchasing processes.
Pirelli’s compliance with the UNI ISO 20400 rule was confirmed in February 2018 by SGS Italia S.p.A., a global provider of inspection, verification, analysis and certification services. The winners of the Pirelli Supplier Awards 2018 include JSR Corp of Japan which manufactures synthetic rubber, and Glanzstoff Sicrem Spa which supplies textile reinforcements and won the award for quality and Speed as well as the prestigious Sustainability prize for making rayon using only cellulose from plantations certified for sustainable agro-forestry management;
Today, Pirelli’s procurement involves the management of around 10,000 suppliers for a total expenditure of 3.2 billion euro in 2017, mainly on raw materials (46%), services (36%), machinery (13%) and consumption materials (3%).”
