Nokian Tyres is recognized the world over as one of the leading manufacturers of winter tires. Now, Nokian has extended the use of Aramid sidewall technology to SUV winter tires. This will make almost all the premium tires manufactured by the company more durable and safer for use by motorists. The Aramid fibers will also be used for all Nokian tires that are already available at the retail level.
Nokian first used Aramid fibers in its test-winning Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV studded tire. They were also a key component of the company’s range of premium SUV summer tires. When Aramid fibers are used in the sidewall of tires, they strengthen and increase its stiffness. This gives the tire greater resistance to cuts and impacts that might lead to a puncture. Aramid fibers are so strong that they are used in military and aviation industries.
SUV drivers generally give greater importance to performance as they have bigger, more powerful vehicles in comparison to passenger cars. Nevertheless, they sometimes park carelessly and drive over unexpected potholes while the tires are underinflated, causing damage to the sidewall. In such instances, the tire will need to be replaced as damage to the sidewall usually cannot be recommended.
The use of Aramid fibers will strengthen the tires further even in challenging situations and minimizes damage from impacts on the sidewall of the tire. The fact that this innovation will mae the tires more durable has been welcomed by both SUV drivers and tire retailers. With the use of this new technology, retailers will be able to provide their customers with a value added product that will allow them to enjoy both offroad and onroad trips with less stress.
