Nokian Tires is well known for its expertise in winter tires and is the market leader in the segment as well as the winner of multiple winter tire tests. Nokian has developed winter tires for all kinds of vehicles including trucks, heavy machinery and passenger cars. These have proved their ability to tackle even the most demanding driving conditions and weather including ice and snow. Using Nokian tires, a new Guinness World Record was created for the “Fastest Vehicle on Ice” when a car attained a top speed of 335.713 km/hr. Nokian also developed the world’s first non-studded winter tire with retractable studs to give the tire a better grip. Another first was the creation of the most energy-efficient winter tire in the world. The company which has been in the business of designing, developing, testing and patenting winter tires for the past 80 years has now created history with another world first. Nokian has just developed the world’s first AA class winter tire.
Nokian Tires has not only launched the world’s first AA class winter tire when it comes to wet grip and fuel efficiency but has also produced first A wet grip category winter tire in the world for cars.
The Nokian WR SUV 3 is the world’s first winter tire in the tire label’s top A category in wet grip and fuel efficiency. In comparison to other tires, the pathbreaking Nokian WR SUV 3 winter tire for SUVs offers a shorter braking distance by up to 18 meters on wet roads and helps motorists to save up to 0.6 litres of fuel every 100 kilometers (size 265/50 R19 V). It incorporates Nokian Twin Trac Silica rubber compound that minimizes fuel consumption and increases the firmness of the grip, while its Nokian Aramid Sidewall technology optimizes the durability of the tire.
The Nokian WR D4 is the first winter tire that has been produced with wet grip that meets the EU tire norms to attain A class for passenger cars. It is ideal for safe driving on snowy and wet roads and can tackle all kinds of winter weather. Nokian WR winter tires are multiple test winners and have achieved numerous further test successes
Nokian’s WR winter tires have been optimised for driving at high speeds on European roads. The Nokian WR D3 tire received the best rating of “exemplary” and emerged as the winner of 2014 winter tire test that was conducted by the renowned German automotive magazine Auto Bild based on its short braking distance and safe handling. The Nokian WR SUV 3 was the top performer in the Off Road winter tire test and that conducted by SUV Magazin. The new Nokian WR D4 was praised as “very recommendable“ in the winter tire test 2015 that was conducted by the German car magazine Auto Zeitung.
So far, Nokian Tires has won as many as 25 tire test wins in comparisons of winter tires that have been held in Russia, Central Europe and the Nordic countries and in Russia.
Tires from Nokian have been notable for their safety innovations like the Winter Safety Indicator with snowflake and Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) with aquaplaning warning. The Winter Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) comes with a unique snowflake symbol that will clearly indicate the groove depth to the driver as it decreases from 8 to 4 millimeters. The numbers gradually disappear as the tire wears out and the snowflake is visible only till the tread is 4 millimeters thick. When the snowflake disappears, the driver will know that the tire needs to be replaced, as at least 4 millimeters of tread depth is needed to give the tire adequate grip on the snow and to minimize the possibility of aquaplaning in summer and slushplaning in winter.
