Emergency Tire Repair Becomes Easier with Launch of New Michelin Product

Michelin has just launched a new aftermarket emergency tire repair product called Michelin Tire Sealant that it claims is highly superior to competitive products and is easier to use. The Michelin Tire Sealant increases the chances for permanent tire repair as it can be easily removed by washing the tire with warm water after use unlike other products which leave thick, sticky residues. The new product saves time and is easy to use as it does not need any tools.

The sealant is available in a 500 ml can and can be used for cars with tires having sizes upto 245/55 R17. According to Simon Bates, marketing and communications manager for Michelin Lifestyle Europe , all motorists have to do if they get a puncture is apply the sealant through the valve. This will make the tire inflate to a safe level even if they have driven with the puncture for a while. Driving on after using the kit will be a lot safer than changing the tire while they are driving on a highway.

After using the sealant, they can drive at speeds up to 50 mph, though it is imperative to have the tire checked by a professional as soon as possible

The tire repair kit was launched by Michelin after many internal tests using a nail that was 2 inches long and 4 mm in diameter to create a puncture in a 205/55R16 tire. The tire was then used for trips of 62, 125 and 250 miles before the use of the kit. In each instance, the sealant effectively closed the hole and it was possible to reinflate the tire and drive for another 250 miles. This is double the distance offered by leading competitor brands.

The Michelin Tire Sealant is part of the company’s Car Care range and is the only tire repair product that is approved by Michelin. It comes with instructions that are easy to follow, protective gloves, a mat to kneel on while using the kit and a box for disposal of the can after use

In view of the fact that many automotive manufacturers are now opting to go without a spare tire in order to minimize, the new Michelin Tire Sealant will definitely be a boon for motorists.
