Continental has always been highly visible in the retreading segment. With the trademark ContiTread, all treads from the German company are derived from the same tread designs, compounds and technologies that are involved in the manufacture of new Continental tires. Hence, endusers can retread tires and save significantly on new tires as the retreads would have similar performance to new tires.
ContiTread™ is part of the modular ContiLifeCycle concept, where Continental supplies its customers with cost-effective service solutions throughout the entire tire life, from new tires through regrooving, casing management, to retreading.
In addition to the significant cost savings for the end customer, retreading is good for the environment, as valuable resources such as crude oil, natural rubber, and water are consumed in far smaller quantities. A considerable amount of CO² can also be saved, as retreading requires up to 70 percent less energy compared to manufacturing a new tire.
Continental is expanding its range of premium treads for larger vehicles with two new treads for buses, Conti CityPlus HA3 and Conti Urban HA3 M+S. These two treads are Generation 3 tire treads for cold retreading and are meant chiefly for the passenger transport sector. The most notable feature of the Conti CityPlus HA3 tread is its prominent longitudinal grooves for providing users with outstanding handling and performance even in wet conditions in long-distance traffic. The tread offers additional grip due to its full-depth 3D sipes and enhances the braking performance of tires throughout their lifetime.
The Conti Urban HA3 tread M+S confirms to the norms for Mud and Snow labeling due to its customized tread compound and a tread design featuring deep sipes. This makes the tread ideal for use in an urban setting and makes a significant difference to the ability of vehicles to stay in their lanes, even in highly wet and snowy conditions. Other benefits offered by this tread include minimal rolling noise and a high level of driving comfort.
The HDC1 tread that has proved to be highly reliable in construction-site traffic will now be available in the HDC1 (M) variant. It has been customized for muddy conditions with lower tread depth than the HDC1 tread. It is also a more cost-effective alternative for use in construction-site traffic for those with lower performance expectations depending on its application.
A new size of 445/45 R 19.5 has been added for the popular HTL1 Eco Plus tread for trailer tires in the goods transport segment. This is a timely move in view of the growing demand for tires that can be used for high-volume transport. The company is now offering its line of ContiTread™ treads for cold retreading in this segment. In view of the imminent arrival of winter, Continental is offering winter tire treads for cold retreading.
The drive axle tread HDW 2 SCANDINAVIA with M+S label is available in the important tire sizes 315/80 R 22.5, 315/70 R 22.5, and 295/80 R 22.5. The ContiTread™ winter range is rounded off with the HTW 2 SCANDINAVIA winter tire tread for trailers and semitrailers in sizes 385/65 R 22.5 and 385/55 R 22.5.
All ContiTread™ treads are ideally designed for use with Continental carcasses. However, they can also be used with the carcasses of tires from other premium manufacturers. With the new additions to its tread range, motorists in both commercial vehicle segments and many other segments will now have access to a comprehensive portfolio of ContiTread™ treads.
