BorgWarner already provides AWD technology for several Jaguar Lad REover mdoels including the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace models. Now, the company has extended this technology to the Range Rover Velar, the company’s new premium SUV.
The Velar proved in NCAP tests that it is one of the best vehicles when it comes to crash protection and received a 5-star N-CAP rating.
BorgWarner’s new transfer case which is notable for its modular design and lightweight aluminum housing was specifically engineered to improve vehicle dynamics and offers scalable, high torque capacity and high torque transfer accuracy.
Commenting on the new transfer case, Dr Stefan Demmerle, president and general manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems said that the customers using the highly efficient AWD solution would benefit from a high-performance product that combines several of its leading technologies.
He added that by working with Jaguar Land Rover to deliver a leading AWD experience, BorgWarner has once again confirmed its position as a global leader in clean and efficient technology solutions for all types of propulsion systems.
BorgWarner transfer case enhances AWD function by connecting to the vehicle’s control systems and monitoring signals to the steering wheel angle, accelerator pedal position and wheel speed. BorgWarner’s patented lightweight centrifugal electro-hydraulic (CEH) actuator uses this data to distribute the required torque between the two axles by compressing the clutch pack. This allows the AWD transfer case to deliver pre-emptive and more precise linear clutch actuation for immediate response, stability control and enhanced vehicle traction.
The transfer case incorporates more BorgWarner technologies like the durable, high-efficiency HY-VO transfer case chain and an innovative pumpless design and sump management in order to provide better fuel economy when compared to traditional transfer case designs. The transfer case’s modular design also facilitates optimal packaging for space-constrained applications.
