Tata Motors has added another feather to its cap with the recent roll out of its Tata Motors Genuine Oil (TMGO) range for all Tata passenger vehicles in India. The premium lubricants have been developed in close cooperation with Petronas Lubricants India (PLI). In total, the two companies have developed nine co-branded lubricants and intend to distribute them over the year in a phased manner.
Currently, two products from the joint venture have been unveiled. Of these, the TMGO CH-4 15W-40 is for diesel cars such as the Tata Indigo and Tata Indica. Meanwhile, the TMGO 80EP is for passenger cars.
PLI embarked in India in 2006, and has successfully recorded a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 40 per cent in the past. By unveiling the co-branded lubricants with Tata Motors, Petronas intends to capture a five percent share of the total two billion-liter lubricant market in the country by 2019. To date, the Malaysian oil and gas company stands at 1.5 percent.
PLI will also reportedly establish a plant at Patalganga, Maharashtra which is anticipated to kick off operations by the end of 2017. The facility, which will need an investment of $50 million or Rs 334.52 crore, will be spread across 25 acres and will have the capacity to produce 11 million liter of lubricant.
Currently, Petronas operates through 3,500 outlets across India which will be used in retailing the brand’s new products in the country. The all-new range is formulated from high performance additives and base oils and developed as per the specific requirements of the Indian passenger vehicle market. Also, the company sells OEM-certified lubricants to Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki, among others.
In a statement, MP Singh, chief executive officer, Petronas Lubricants (India) Pvt Ltd (PLIPL), said that PLI in India is now entering the next wave of growth in line with their aspirations and they are confident that the coming together of Tata Motors, a highly-respected leader in automotive engineering, together with PLI would enable them better their position in this market as a leading provider of premium lubricants. “We are offering a unique proposition through TMGO to further strengthen our relationship with customers and deliver products for engine care that is built upon a strong legacy in lubricants technology.”
