As one of the automakers following a current industry trend, Subaru will reportedly roll out a modular chassis later this year, which will support all of the automaker’s upcoming models. The Subaru Global Platform will be seen first on the all-new Impreza, which is slated to hit showroom floors in the second half of this year.
According to Subaru, its new platform provides 70-100 percent greater rigidity compared to the company’s current models, and the stiffer chassis suggests less vibration travels through the vehicle to the seats and steering wheel, resulting in an easier time for the driver. There is also a 40 percent increase in impact energy absorption which also indicates enhanced safety.
Moreover, customers are promised to have a more exhilarating drive in the upcoming Subarus. The Japanese automaker claims that the new platform lowers the center gravity by 0.2 inches, which must sharpen handling. The engineers now mount the rear stabilizer directly to the body, which is said to reduce body roll by almost half over current models. The platform also supports plug-in, hybrid, and EV drivetrains to adapt to the future.
Though customers will fully experience the Subaru Global Platform in the soon-to-be-launched Impreza, Subaru already has other models with the platform under development. For instance, the XV Concept from Geneva indicates at a sharper look for the next generation of compact crossover. The all-new WRX is said to join the range next year and will possibly get an additional boost from hybrid power. In 2018, a seven-passenger CUV will also join the US lineup.
With the Subaru Global Platform, the automaker is anticipated to maintain its brisk sales pace in the coming years.
