Leading flash storage solutions provider SanDisk Corp. has recently expanded its offerings of robust, intelligent solutions designed to address the huge data generated by connected applications in industrial and automotive markets.
The company’s newest automotive flash storage solution is an automotive grade SD™ card enhanced to meet the distinct storage demands of the “connected car”. Included in this new card is a set of built-in smart features that improve reliability and enable OEMs to better manage their storage in data-intensive automotive environments. Furthermore, SanDisk also confirmed that it is bringing these new OEM-optimized features to its SanDisk Industrial and SanDisk Industrial XT SD cards.
Oded Sagee, senior director of connected solutions at SanDisk, said that the Internet of Things is by far the most dynamic force to influence the industrial and automotive markets in a decade, driving thrilling new opportunities for connectivity as well as new challenges for how to store, process and manage the data it creates. He noted that their latest SanDisk Automotive and SanDisk Industrial flash storage solutions are perfect for connected applications in these markets, providing outstanding dependability and performance as well as new smart features that enable their OEM customers to better maximize their storage.
Coping with the Need for More Storage
With the ever-growing automotive connectivity, more and more connected vehicles are anticipated to be on the road over the next few years that will need storage. In accordance with Gartner Research, four years from now, the connected cars installed base will be more than nine times larger than that of last year. The company forecasts that 80 percent of all new vehicle models in mature markets will have data connectivity, 30 percent of connected cars will feature built-in, function-level, OTA software update capabilities; and more than one billion connected automotive subsystems will be shipped.
With the new AEC-Q100 certified SanDisk Automotive SD card, OEMS are able to bring intelligent, reliable and high-capacity data storage to wide-ranging in-vehicle applications and systems such as data event recorders, 3D and HD navigation and mapping systems, telematics and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and more. This SD card is claimed to meet the intense quality, reliability and temperature demands of the automotive market.
It also offers a new set of smart features including a memory health status monitor, improved power failure protection, OEM customization capabilities as well as improvements for read-intensive applications such as navigation. Thanks to these features, automakers can designate and program a SanDisk Automotive SD card for use with a certain connected application. Moreover, automakers can remotely and proactively track the easily removable SD card to ensure that it is operating at its ideal performance level or to determine when card upgrades or replacements are required.
In a statement, Frank Hartwig, chief executive officer of CDA, said that quality and reliability are important in the automotive industry. He explained that SanDisk’s newest automotive solution with smart features enables their OEM customers to bring outstanding quality, customizable flash storage to wide-ranging connected car applications and offers the ability to continue to ensure that the applications work at their best after the car drives off the lot.
Availability
Reports say that samples of SanDisk Automotive, SanDisk Industrial and SanDisk Industrial XT SD card solutions with the new smart features are slated to be available in March in the US and Europe, in capacities up to 64GB.
