Renault is seeking to strengthen its technological expertise and emerge as a leader in future mobility through acquisition of technological expertise from Intel. The company has acquired next-generation embedded vehicle software from the tech giant in a bid to reinforce its position in the era of connectivity and autonomous vehicles. Renault signed the final agreement to acquire Intel’s French embedded software R&D activity based in Toulouse and Sophia-Antipo lis, France. Thus, Renault will get ready access to a full spectrum of skills to reinforce developments in next-generation embedded vehicle software, which will play a crucial role in areas like personalized services and remote, autonomous and realtime updates.
According to Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault, the Intel acquisition aligns well with Groupe Renault’s strategy of offering new connected services and enhancing the customer experience for Renault owners. The Intel employees who would join Renault as an outcome of the deal have highly relevant skills in an area that requires strong competitive technical expertise, and where the Renault-Nissan Alliance is one of the world leaders. He also added that Groupe Renault thereby continues to support French innovation and economic development in France.
Intel’s French R&D teams, which have established software development expertise that is complementary to Renault’s, will bring to Renault their expertise, advanced methods and tools, as well as access to a sound network of suppliers, laboratories and partner companies. Some of the teams already have skills in multimedia and connectivity which are specific to the automotive industry.
