PPG has announced that the company’s automotive OEM coatings business has received the first-ever Global Design Award given by Groupe Renault. The company received the award during a supplier awards ceremony in Paris. Tim Knavish, PPG senior vice president, global automotive coatings, received the award at the ceremony on behalf of PPG. At the ceremony, Renault honored suppliers drawn from many categories, but PPG was the only supplier which was singled out to receive the global design, thus highlighting the efforts PPG made to develop the unique Rouge Flamme finish that is used exclusively by the French car manufacturer.
Groupe Renault had added the Global Design Award for the first time this year to its annual recognition program for suppliers in order to recognize those suppliers who have made exceptional contributions in certain areas like design.
PPG had exclusively developed and began supplying the Rouge Flamme shade, a striking and innovative color which uses a complex red clearcoat, to Renault back in 2011. Renault uses the shade on models like the Twingo, the Clio 4, the Kadjar, Captur and New Megane.
Speaking about the award, Luis Aragon, PPG global account director, Groupe Renault and PSA Group said that the color is a major achievement for PPG and represents a significant advance when it comes to high-chroma colors in automotive applications. He added that Rouge Flamme’s success highlighted how high-quality, attractive finishes can help the company’s customers to enhance their brand image and increase their vehicle sales.
Aragon concluded, “”We are very proud to win this award and to continue growing our partnership with Renault.”
