The NSG Group has announced that it is significantly ramping up the technology and manufacturing capacity at its plant in Versailles, Kentucky in the United States. The factory is engaged in the production of automotive glass.
The upgrade to the factory will commence this spring and will involve investment to the tune of USD 7.5 million. The technology in the plant will be upgraded so that the most modern Advanced Press Bend (APB) process can be used for manufacturing laminated windshields.
The NSG Group came up with its proprietary APB technology for making complex-shaped windshields which have tighter tolerance. This technology will be used to support production of laminated windshields with Head-Up Display (HUD) units, which have become a highly popular optional feature for many new models.
Speaking about the investment, Tony Fradgley, Head of Automotive Global said that the initiative is an example of the NSG Group’s global effort to scale up in order to meet current and future customer demands in the automotive glass market. He said that the company is prepared to respond to the growing needs of its customers which are generated by the rapidly advancing technology for driving assistance systems like the need for HUD systems.
The company will be getting financial support for its planned investment to upgrade its US plant from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority. The upgrade will involve the installation of new equipment and upgrade to existing equipment at the Versailles plant. The plant was set up back in 1987 and has more than 300 people. It is operated by Pilkington North America which is part of NSG Group.
The NSG group is a leading manufacturer of glass and glazing products for the architectural, automotive and technical glass sectors.
