Nexteer Automotive has opened a new plant in Chennai, India. The new plant in Chennai is Nexteer’s third manufacturing facility in India as the company already has two plants in Pune and Bangalore. It will also be the 26th factory that Nexteer has as part of its manufacturing footprint which extends across the globe. According to Nexteer, the new factory in Chennai will require a workforce of 150 people by the end of 2019.
Commenting on the new plant, Madhav Kulkarni, managing director, Nexteer India said that the Chennai facility which covers an area of 8,336 square meters is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nexteer Automotive. He added that the new factory which expands the company’s presence in India will help to bring Nexteer’s renowned Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and Driveline products to the Indian market and also to provide its customers there with fast, responsive service.
Tao Liu, senior vice-president and global chief operating officer, Nexteer Automotive said that Nexteer’s EPS systems further improve driver comfort, control and feel-of-the-road, and also facilitates the use of ADAS features, like lane keeping, park assist, lane departure warning, traffic jam assist and more. EPS systems also make it possible to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions while adding to the personality and performance of vehicles.
Liu concluded, “The opening of Nexteer’s facility in Chennai and our expanded production capacity in India are important pieces in our global strategy and represent our confidence in the growth potential of the automotive market within this region.”
