Sygic, which is known as the company that made the first ever turn-by-turn navigation app for iPhone debuted a new software development kit (SDK) for automotive manufacturers at the recent TU-Automotive Detroit show. Sygic is one of the leading companies in the mobile navigation space and its products are used by over 200 million motorists across the globe. The new SDK is part of Sygic’s drive to bring the mobile apps approach into the infotainment systems in cars.
Redefined User experience standards
Commenting on the new kit, Stefan Janciga, Vice President of the Automotive unit in Sygic expressed the company’s belief that the new technology that is currently available in modern cars and the know-how from the mobile apps industry can converge to offer motorists a much safer and personalized user experience. Using such technology will help car makers to transform car infotainment systems and the way they are used.
According to the survey results of the 2018 J. D. Power Initial Quality Study which was based on the responses of 75,712 purchasers, a fifth of new car owners is not satisfied with the infotainment system. The infotainment system comprises GPS navigation, Bluetooth integration, USB connectivity, voice recognition, and the user interface. The level of satisfaction has increased slightly in recent years, but the rise is not as significant as that in other categories, like interior, engine, or exterior.
“When you compare the development of mobile apps in the last few years with the current offering of the car makers, the gap in the design, features and overall user experience is significant,“ explained Janciga.
Single platform for the Global Market
The new Sygic Automotive SDK provides automotive manufacturers with an immersive set of innovative API‘s. These range from progressive routing which has the capability to learn the driver’s daily routines, data from vehicle integration, augmented reality, object recognition, and advanced voice recognition. All such features can be combined with GPS location or smartphone sensors and integrated with vehicle infotainment.
Sygic’s SDK for the Automotive industry has been designed as a map agnostic platform which will permit car manufacturers to cover the global market with a single technology provider while at the same time delivering an excellent local experience. The company already collaborates with the top map providers like TomTom, Zenrin, Map My India, Here and many others.
Based on its expertise in the mobile app world, Sygic also understands that engagement is crucial in order to make customers satisfied and loyal. Hence, the new concept of the map and navigation SDK for automakers includes technologies to easily applied Gamification strategies to deliver successful automotive apps.
The best feature of the Sygic Automotive SDK is its flexibility that allows car manufacturers to bring next-generation all-in-one navigation technology to their customers with tailored design, user experience, and several safety layers, according to Janciga. The SDK can also be used to read and predict upcoming situations thanks to data to vehicle integration and thus becomes a handy assistant for drivers.
