A marquee name in the automotive aftermarket parts segment, Motorcar Parts of America, Inc. (MPA) announced the launch of a new line of turbochargers and brake power boosters as part of their expanding product portfolio in the under-car and under-the-hood product lines. The company also acquired ZOR Industries, a manufacturer of turbochargers for commercial, agricultural and industrial applications in order to expand their product line.
In keeping with MPA’s ongoing product launch strategy, the current launch is targeted at working with the company’s existing clientele. The company’s approach includes the offering of value-added services to its clients as an enhancement to its expanded product line. In a statement to the press, Selwyn Joffe, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of MPA stated that the sales of the new line of brake power boosters are expected to commence in the middle of August after an intensive development cycle that enables the strategic product launch. He also confirmed that MPA’s acquisition has allowed it to leverage the consumer base, and importantly, provide access to the people, processes and technologies needed to support the emerging niche product lines that are part of the company’s strategy.
Brake power boosters are servos that multiply and deliver an exponentiation of the force on the brake pedal to the braking system. With a retail aftermarket valued at more than $350 billion, brake power boosters represent a growing category due to the proliferation of braking power systems, anti-lock braking and advanced driver assistance systems. Similarly, turbochargers have seen increased use in domestic, commercial, industrial, and heavy vehicles with the optimization of high-performance engines, body weight optimization, and increased fuel efficiency, resulting in a retail market of approximately $500 million—a value that is only expected to grow. The expiry and replacement of older turbochargers also represent a significant opportunity that is expected to support MPA’s strategic plans by the combination of new product offerings and the acquisition of ZOR Industries of Winchester, Virginia.
