It has become compulsory from November 2016 for replacement brake discs on all newly registered vehicles to comply with ECE R90 quality standard. Even before the norms came into effect, 90 per cent of all MEYLE brake discs which are available at the retail level are already compliant with the standard today. When it comes to MEYLE components for older models, which are not required to be ECE R90 compliant, they are also compliant with the norms. Hence, repair professionals will be able to provide their customers with brake repair services that will be using components which meet the highest safety requirements and will provide them with the best levels of safety on the road.
Till November 2016, the ECE R90 was applicable only to replacement brake pads. But now, it applies also to brake discs in vehicles that have been manufactured after that date. MEYLE is one of the leading designer and manufacturer of automotive spare parts, and took action well in advance to ensure that 90 per cent of all MEYLE brake discs that are sold already meet ECE R90 quality standards.
The E approval mark attests to the fact that replacement brake parts are good enough to match the performance features of OE products. As part of the certification process, independent experts carry out comprehensive tests to determine the components’ functional reliability and safety. As part of these tests, the parts are subjected to numerous braking actions under extreme conditions and should not show any signs of damage. The authorized experts then evaluate part performance based on criteria given in the ECE R90 directive.
The certified MEYLE brake discs do not just meet the stringent modern safety standards, but they also have cutting-edge coating technologies which offer additional long-term anti-corrosion protection for brake discs including high-carbon MEYLE PD brake discs which belong to the MEYLE PD product line. As the high-carbon MEYLE PD brake discs have a higher carbon content, they offer better torsional and thermal resistance when compared to conventional brake discs. This further minimizes noise and vibration. All brake discs sold under the MEYLE PD product line offer advanced anti-corrosion resistance and extended service life and play a key part in helping workshops build long-term relations with satisfied customers. They also help technicians save time and costs as they two procedures in brake repair redundant: the discs come as a “ready to fit” pack and do not need degreasing. The second advantage they offer is that over 85 per cent of the products are shipped with the locating screw included.
