Vehicle connectivity is the name of the game currently in the automotive industry. However, along with vehicle connectivity comes increased risk for cyber attacks. This is why Marvell’s new secure automotive gigabit Ethernet switch, an industry first is a welcome technological innovation. It will now permit a higher level of safety for data transmission in next-generation connected vehicles.
The new highly secure Ethernet switch has specifically designed to reduce the risk of hacking and cybercrime. It is fully compliant with the IEEE802.3 and 802.1 standards. At the foundational hardware level itself, the new switch employs a deep packet inspection (DPI) engine and boot functionality to boost the level of security. In order to further increase the security level, the switch supports both whitelisting and blacklisting addresses on all its Ethernet ports. The new Ethernet switch is AEC-Q100 qualified to meet the strictest industry norms. It can complement both 100Mbps and 1Gbps interfaces with five integrated 100BASE-T1 physical interfaces. It can also be connected easily to Marvell’s previously announced 1000BASE-T1 PHY.
Currently, samples of the gigabit Ethernet switch are being closely evaluated by top tier 1 automotive suppliers.
There are numerous computing applications in the modern vehicle that call for a strong and secure in-vehicle-network. This makes auto manufacturers opt for Ethernet technology. Many vehicle systems like ADAS and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), as well as self-driving depend a lot on digital information that is streamed internally within the vehicle and externally from the vehicle to other vehicles.
The new automotive Ethernet switch which is the latest product in Marvell’s range of wired and wireless network solutions, for the automotive sector is meant to prevent any malicious attacks or compromises to the data that is streamed in-and-out of modern vehicles. This will help to increase the safety of both vehicles and their occupants.
