General Motors Middle East recently conducted a road trip that covered 1,750 kilometers to showcase the versatility and the 500 km plus range of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt. Called the 2018 Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT), the nine-day event began on January 18 from Abu Dhabi and covered 1,750 kilometres, with stopovers in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah before crossing the border into Oman and two stopovers in Sohar and Muscat before the vehicle headed back to Dubai for the end of the road trip.
Commenting on the event, Molly Peck, Chief Marketing Officer at General Motors Middle East, said that it served as the perfect opportunity for the company to put its Chevrolet Bolt EV to the test in real-word regional conditions. By completing this trip in fine form, the Chevrolet Bolt EV proved that it is the best-in-class affordable long-range EV in its segment. GM Middle East served as the EVRT’s Official Vehicle Partner throughout the journey and General Motors will continue to play a major role in the Middle East’s future mobility revolution by promoting the cause of EVs across the region.
The first leg of the trip involved a drive to Madinat Zayed, during which the Chevrolet Bolt EV had less than full battery charge. The vehicle stopped for recharging and then went on the nearly 400km run to Sohar in Oman, tackling both city driving and long stretches on the highway with equal eases. The Chevrolet Bolt EV proved that there is no need for ‘range anxiety’ at all when it comes to the vehicle as the four-hour-plus journey was covered with enough charge and driving range to spare. Then came the next stop for recharging at Sohar, and the vehicle was all ready for the 200km-plus trip to Muscat, the capital of Oman. This part of the journey too was covered with plenty of driving range still available from the vehicle’s powerful 60kWh battery pack.
There was another stop for recharging in Muscat and it was time to head back across the border to the UAE, along the stunning coastal roads connecting Muscat to Fujairah with a pause for another pit-stop in Sohar. The Chevrolet Bolt EV covered this 350km drive in style, and proved that just like an internal combustion vehicle, it can be easily driven on long trips across borders, minus the emissions.
The final stop for recharging was made at Fujairah, and then the vehicle entered the home stretch to reach the Dubai Sustainability City via Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Sharjah. This is comparable to the longest distance anyone could reasonably expect to cover in a daily driving situation. The road trip involved covering more than 1,750 kilometres over nine days and showed that the Chevrolet Bolt EV is ideal for any every-day driving situation. Range anxiety need no longer be a concern with the Bolt EV’s 500km-plus driving range.
