Lohmann Corporation has started work on a 25,000-square-foot building that will increase the capacity of its manufacturing facility located in Thomas.E. Lee industrial park in Orange County, Virginia. The company which produces specialty adhesive tape for the automotive industry is seeking to increase its capacity to meet the growing demand from the automotive sector.
According to Steven DeJong, president of Lohmann Corp, the company’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers in the American market wanted direct access to the adhesive technologies that were used in their European operations. As an outcome of this expansion, the company will be able to carry out on-site converting and fabrication. This will make Lohmann a one-stop supplier of adhesives for practically every automotive surface.
DeJong added that automotive manufacturing and assembly operations are growing at an exponential pace in the Americas, and the company’s adhesive tape solutions are used when it comes to every aspect of a vehicle including exterior, interior, mechanical, electronic, and decorative components.
He said, “Just as automobile manufacturers want ready access to their suppliers, suppliers are demanding the same convenient access to our adhesive tapes that their European counterparts enjoy.”
Kentucky and West Virginia were other sites that were in the running, but Lohmann decided to opt for Orange County as it received funds to the tune of USD 85,000 boost from Virginia’s Commonwealth Opportunity Fund. It is expected that the plant expansion will create at least an additional 56 jobs.
Lohmann Corporation and Subsidiaries is a fully owned subsidiary of Germany’s Lohmann GmbH & Co. KG, which was established 165 years ago. The company was set up to pave the way for Lohmann’s expansion into the American market. Initially beginning with the conversion of products imported from the parent company in Germany, now Lohmann Corporation and Subsidiaries has a state-of-the-art coating plant in Virginia, and recently acquired a die-cutting company in California.
