Zeeland-based Gentex Corp. is one of the companies that will take this month’s CES by storm with the premiere of its state-of-the-art vision-enhancing technologies for the automotive industry.
The company is now all-geared up to give a demo of its new full-display mirror on the 2016 Cadillac CT6 and the 2017 Cadillac XT5 at the event, which will run from January 6 until 9.
According to Neil Boehm, Gentex vice president of engineering, much of the thrill leading up to the debut of those two vehicles is because they are the first production vehicles to publicly feature their new full display mirror, which is an on-demand, mirror-borne LCD display that streams live, panoramic video of the vehicle’s rearward view to enhance the driver’s rear vision.
Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association, the show has served as the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and innovators for nearly five decades.
Boehm revealed in a statement that the two Cadillac vehicles in their CES booth would be equipped with a number of Gentex’s proprietary technologies, including glare-eliminating automatic-dimming exterior mirrors with side blind zone alerts on the XT5, and their HomeLink® car-to-home automation system located on both vehicles.
Gentex will also present its custom-designed camera systems that are engineered particularly for automotive forward-facing machine vision applications and rear vision applications. The company’s video camera for automotive applications features a proprietary CMOS imager that delivers unparalleled dynamic range with pixel-level intelligence. Each camera pixel determines its own exposure and self-adjust so that both the darkest and brightest areas of any given scene are clearly visible.
Included in the other things Gentex has in store are the latest implementations of its frameless mirror designs, HomeLink car-to-home automation system, dimmable aircraft windows for the aerospace industry, and new motorcycle vision technologies.
