A new company named EVEN Electric has arrived on the automotive scene in Canada. Based in Ottawa, EVEN plans to set up the first global sales and distribution network for electric vehicles and will have a product range consisting of multiple brands and pre-owned vehicles. The company will launch an innovative retail and online experience for customers when it comes to electric cars.
According to Mike Elwood, CEO of EVEN, the traditional dealership model is inadequate to cater to the needs and wants of EV owners in terms of sales and service. EVEN’s model combines the best aspects of an online and in-store sales experience to help EV customers determine what they want and when and where they want it.
John Gordon, EVEN’s COO felt that checking out different dealerships to buy one car is outdated. With EVEN, customers will have a chance to assess and try out different models of electric cars from multiple brands at the same store. EVEN aims to create an entirely new distribution model that uses technology to give customers a hitherto unprecedented level of choice and convenience. Customers will also benefit from lower costs as EVEN will lower costs across the entire supply chain by optimizing the flow of EVs directly to the global markets as and when they are needed.
EVEN plans to store electric vehicles at centralized processing centers in key countries. When a customer selects a vehicle, it will be shipped to the nearest “Customer Center,” a streamlined and less capital intensive version of a dealership. Vehicle deliveries and services can take place either at the Customer Center, or directly in an owner’s driveway.
EVEN will also simultaneously work with governments, fleets and NGOs to help expedite the development of EV infrastructure and help deploy them. EVEN is currently holding discussions with locations in Canada, Norway, Panama, Ireland, Belgium and the U.K. According to company officials, a recent pilot project in Iceland proved that there is high demand among consumers for EVs, if there are proper distribution and infrastructure services in place. During the duration of the project, EVEN sold 100 cars and due to lack of supply, was unable to fill an additional 200 orders.
EVEN has a number of reputable partners on board, including Microsoft, which has supplied the company with software to support the backend processes to help customers get information, compare vehicles, scan inventories and even place orders for vehicles.
EVEN Electric has also formed a strategic partnership with EVoCharge, a Los Angeles-based firm that is one of the market leaders when it comes to the development and supply of innovative EV charging infrastructure products like the EVoReel cable management solutions.
With better infrastructure, lower costs and change in political policies and customer outlook, EV ownership will soon become cheaper, more accessible, more desirable and more fun.
