Driving will now become safer than ever, thanks to Diodes Incorporated’s newly rolled out AL1663 and AL1663R single-stage dimmable LED controllers. Designed to support fly-back and buck-boost topologies, they give primary-side regulation that attains a precise constant-current output without requiring opto-couplers and secondary control circuitry. Operating at up to 150W and boasting a number of dimming options, these controllers offer robust and cost-effective drivers for smart LED lighting, LED backlighting and general-purpose dimmable LED lamps.
Both low and high efficiency result from operation in boundary-conduction mode (BCM) with valley-switching control, which further guarantees that the AL1663 and AL1663R sustain high power-factors with low total harmonic distortion under universal input-voltage conditions.
What’s more, using primary-side regulation streamlines design and lowers total BOM component count and cost. Also, the AL1663 and AL1663R are characterized by low operating current and low start-up current, and incorporate a number of protection features including short-circuit, over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature.
Digital and analog dimming modes are also supported: the AL1663R comes with a single dimming pin that will accept either a digital PWM input when connected with a suitable input capacitor of several hundred nF or an analog signal between 0.3V and 2.4V DC. Moreover, the AL1663 offers an extra digital mapping input pin that can accept a high-frequency PWM signal and offers built-in PWM-to-DC conversion.
Customers can get both the AL1663 and AL1663R in SO-8 packages.
