Delphi Product & Service Solutions (DPSS) has launched a new fuel tank cleaning kit that will be highly useful to technicians and will help to increase the life of fuel pumps. Independent research studies have indicated that many replacement pumps fail due to contamination in the fuel tank. Over time, debris and contaminants collect inside the tank to the point where they can clog the strainer. This forces the pump to consume more current and amperage, thus significantly shortening its lifespan. The pump will then burn out sooner than expected and will need to be replaced. During replacement of the fuel pump, technicians generally clean and inspect the fuel tank prior to ensure that there is no contamination that can affect the functioning of the new pump. This is where the new product can make a difference.
Commenting on the cleaning kit, Kathy Jorge, Vice President, North America, Delphi Product & Service Solutions said that Delphi has considerable OE expertise and is a leader in the fuel management category. This is why the company recommends that technicians clean the fuel tank every time they replace a fuel pump. She added that the new fuel tank cleaning kit is designed to make it easier for technicians to clean the tank safely and effectively. It is part of Delphi’s commitment to help customers by getting the job done right the first time.
The kit comprises a cleaning solution, gloves and a lint-free cloth. The low-suds cleaning solution has been specifically developed to easily treat and rinse up to a 40 gallon capacity fuel tank. It removes microbes from the tank, breaks down varnish and gel from ethanol, and minimizes sludge and other fuel contaminants. It even has the capability to extend the life of the new fuel sending unit by removing debris that could possibly harm the unit. The new kit became available at the retail level from the end of April 28 in the United States and Canada.
