Alfa Romeo is one lucky automaker as recently, Continental’s MK C1 has made its first-ever world premiere in the Integrated Brake System (IBS) of the all-new Giulia. The innovative system is lighter, more dynamic, and more compact than traditional brake systems. Moreover, it reduces pedal vibrations and the driver always feels the same force-path characteristics in the pedal, which gives a high level of comfort.
According to Robert Beaver, chief engineer Electronic Brake Systems at Continental North America, they are extremely proud that their MK C1 launches in the Alfa Romeo Giulia. He explained that this brake system offers great braking force for safety systems and short braking distances help avert mishaps and reduce accident severity. “In addition, reduced weight of the unit directly translates into reduced emissions.”
The MK C1 makes a huge contribution to safe and dynamic driving as well as energy efficiency. The cutting-edge electronic brake system integrates the brake booster, brake actuation and control systems (ESC and ABS) into a compact, weight-saving braking module that weighs around nine pounds less than a traditional braking system.
Continental’s electro-hydraulic MK C1 can build up braking pressure considerably faster than traditional hydraulic systems, fulfilling the enhanced pressure dynamics requirements for new advanced driver assistance systems to avert accidents and safeguard pedestrians. Moreover, the system fully meets the requirements for a recuperative braking system without any extra measures, while offering a high level of comfort.
