Continental has announced that it will be partnering with TomTom Telematics in order to create a better data archiving solution for HGVs (heavy goods vehicles) and fulfill transportation norms that are becoming increasingly strict in Europe and North America. This collaboration between on of the top transportation compliance solution providers and the German manufacturer of premium tires and automotive components will allow customers to remotely transfer data from the truck to the back office using telematics solutions.
As part of the collaboration, the TomTom WEBFLEET will be linked with TIS-Web, which is part part of the VDO brand from Continental. Fleet managers will now have a greater degree of control over their digital tachograph data and it will be possible to automatically download tachograph data from fleet vehicles and upload it to TIS-Web. This will make it easier to comply with upcoming regulatory changes. TIS-Web can also be used to analyze the tachograph data thus improving the fleet efficiency and minimizing unnecessary interruptions.
Speaking about the partnership, Thomas Schmidt, managing director at TomTom Telematics said that it has always been a challenge for owners of large vehicles to capturing and analyze tachograph data in a timely and effective manner as this meant more expenses with regard to time and money. Connecting trucks directly to the back office will give businesses greater control over the data and help them to operate more efficiently and attain their goals faster.
According to Dr. Lutz Scholten, head of tachographs, telematics and service at Continental it was only natural for the two market leaders to team up in order to develop a comprehensive solution that can help companies to achieve compliance. He said this partnership is another step in strengthening the compliance domain in Continental’s fleet management solutions, which also extends to driver, vehicles, logistics and trailer solutions.
TIS-Web customers who have already installed TomTom WEBFLEET now have the option of merging the two solutions into a single customer-friendly solution.
The new app – WEBFLEET TacoShare TIS-Web Connect – will be made available at the retail level from October 2016. Pricing for the extra services will range from €4.90/vehicle/month for the standard integration to €8.90/vehicle/month for the addition of TomTom Telematics Remaining Driving Time functionality. These charges will be in addition to the existing cost of WEBFLEET and TIS-Web accounts.
