Brembo has set up a new plant in Mexico in order to facilitate access to Tesla’s plant in California. This will make Brembo one of most preferred companies when it comes to provision of brakes to Tesla as the location of the new plant means that there will be a significant reduction in costs and delivery time.
Brembo’s new subsidiary in Mexico in which the Italian brake manufacturer invested USD 35 million is located in a 35,000 sq.m site in Escobedo, Nuevo Leon and will create 500 new jobs. The factory has a maximum production capacity of 2 million units per year and Brembo will be approaching other auto manufacturers like Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW for supply of brakes.
Brembo was initially set up in 1961 in Bergamo, Italy as a supplier of disc brake calipers for Alfa Romeo and now provides for many major players in the auto industry including Ferrari, Lamborghini, General Motors, BMW and Audi in addition to famous racing teams like the Red Bull team and the Mercedes AMG team.
Brembo’s new plant in Mexico will make brake calipers, handbrakes and electric parking brakes for Tesla. The handbrake swill have 50 components, will be 25 centimeters long and unlike conventional handbrakes can be activated with the touch of a button.
At the Mexican plant, premium brakes will be fashioned from aluminum alloy, making them a lot lighter than those from iron and can be painted. Their bright colors will make them stand out through the wheel and in the case of the brakes for Tesla will be red.
