Getac, which is a leading player in the manufacture of mobile computing devices has announced that it has finalized a deal with the BMW Group for the rugged mobile devices and solutions across its global network. These devices and solutions would be used for a wide range of applications including R&D, production, warehouse logistics and workshop diagnostics. The technology partnership between the two companies goes back several years as Getac has supplied rugged equipment to the BMW Group for vehicle and application testing over the last six years. With the renewal of this partnership, the BMW Group has placed a large order with Getac for supply of its S410, V110, F110, A140, UX10 and T800 series rugged notebooks and tablets.
Rugged solutions for a range of complex requirements Getac adapted its equipment to the individual needs of the various user groups within the BMW Group in order to develop solutions that could meet the complex requirements of the BMW Group. In the case of research and development, security and the protection of sensitive data is highly important. When it comes to logistics, for using the internal BVIS picking system, Getac A140’s clear, 14-inch display and optional barcode and RFID readers are highly useful for recording key data in a simple and efficient manner.
Getac notebooks and tablets are known for their high reliability and powerful performance, thus making it possible for users to perform complex tasks at their highest levels of efficiency. The Getac devices are also rated from IP52 and up to IP65 for water and dust resistance, thus making them more suitable for use in harsh environments and capable of meeting the stringent requirements for use in the automotive industry.
Fast services at the workshop The BMW Group uses the semi-rugged S410 notebook to perform international vehicle diagnostics. The notebook’s key features include wireless and wired connectivity for direct access to diagnostic data and rapid vehicle tests. Getac’s LumiBond 2.0 touchscreen technology provides brilliant readability, even in direct sunlight. The device features four advanced touch modes (Touch/Rain, Glove or Pen). It becomes possible to handle service orders more efficiently, thus delivering high-quality operations and shorter delivery times.
Industry 4.0 – Reliable and rugged computers enable digital transformation Under the key areas of “Industry 4.0” and digital transformation, Getac’s rugged solutions help open up new ways of optimizing the entire value chain for automotive production.
Getac is slowly gaining more traction in the automotive industry thanks to its ongoing commitment to R&D, implementation of the latest technology, comprehensive service concept, and ability to customize solutions to individual customer requirements. All these qualities are needed to meet the high demands of the industry.
“The special challenge when working with the BMW Group is the wide range of application areas the company has, each with specific equipment demands that needed to be met,” explains Rick Hwang, President of Rugged & Video Solutions Business Group at Getac. “We are therefore very pleased BMW has chosen Getac solutions again, continuing the success it has already achieved in worldwide process optimization with the help of our devices.”
Eric Yeh, Director Sales and Operations at Getac Technology GmbH, added that the company was very proud of the large new order from the BMW Group. It marked another great success for the company and also served as an acknowledgement of Getac’s ongoing efforts to support its customers and meet their expectations in the best possible way.
