Reaching new realms of performance: Up to 660 hp & 800 Nm in special limited- edition M2 model In the M2, BMW M GmbH has created something truly special. This coupé might be the smallest “true M car”, but it remains a genuine heavyweight on the auto scene and a big seller. Just before the company ended production of the model, BMW presented another highlight in early 2020: the lightweight, performance-enhanced M2 CS. Although this souped-up variant packs a hefty punch leaving the factory, the specialists at G-POWER have delivered emphatic proof that there was still plenty of room for further enhancements. Not surprising, of course, given that the G-POWER brand can look back on over 35 years’ experience delivering performance optimizations for BMWs. G-POWER has developed no fewer than four distinct upgrade levels for the BMW M2 CS. The highest level boosts the two-door’s 3.0-liter bi-turbo inline six-cylinder S55B30 gasoline engine from its standard 450 hp (331 kW) and 550 Nm to a massive 660 hp (485 kW) and 800 Nm – an increase of almost 50 percent! These impressive figures are made possible through the masterful combination of GP-660 performance software with numerous other hardware adjustments. For example, G-POWER has equipped the S55 with sport downpipes that reduce the exhaust back pressure, plus GP-660 injectors, a locking device for the crankshaft central screw, the GP DEEPTONE exhaust and the GP-700 turbocharger upgrade. The latter is a supercharger made markedly more efficient by features including larger compressor and turbine wheels, larger CNC-milled housings and an optimized turbine blade. The other, less aggressive upgrade levels feature corresponding software optimizations with some of the hardware adjustments. The second-highest level takes the M2 CS to 570 hp (419 kW) and 720 Nm, made possible by GP- 570 performance software, sport downpipes and the GP DEEPTONE exhaust. This upgrade level also includes the mandatory crankshaft central-screw lock – as does the third-highest level. The third level takes the CS to 540 hp (397 kW) and 680 Nm; it includes GP-540 performance software and the GP DEEPTONE exhaust, which is always made from stainless steel and features exhaust valves and four 90mm-diameter, carbon-coated endpipes. The entry-level G-POWER performance enhancement for the M2 CS boosts it up to 500 hp (368 kW) and 650 Nm, and only includes GP-500 performance software and the crankshaft central-screw lock. No matter which upgrade level a customer chooses, G-POWER always offers (and recommends) further modifications, such as lifting the Vmax limit, the GP overrun fuel cut-off, GTS transmission software and the charge-air cooler package, plus the charge pressure hose pipe and sport air filter developed in-house.
Finally, G-POWER offers options to customize the appearance of the M2 CS. The well-known HURRICANE RR forged wheels and the new HURRICANE RS forged wheels are optionally available – each in various finishes. They measure 9×20″ for the front axle and 10.5×20″ for the rear, complete with 245/30 R20 and 265/30 R20 tires. These one-piece rims are perfectly suited to the wheel arches on this compact sportster: made from ultra-lightweight aviation-grade aluminum, they reduce the unsprung and rotating masses, which has a noticeably positive effect on driving dynamics.
