Udrive, a pay-per-minute car rental which started operations in Dubai in January 2017 has expanded to cover Sharjah as well. As part of its operations in Sharjah, initially the company will have 100 vehicles. Like Careem and Uber, Udrive is a smartphone app-based service, albeit for renting vehicles without a driver’s services. Unlike long-term car rentals, the user will have to pay only for the time that the vehicle is sued and this can be for minutes or hours. Motorists can book Udrive vehicles through the company’s dedicated app and thus benefit from a highly convenient car rental option.
Vehicles are available 24/7 and can be picked up from a location that is closest to the driver once the booking has been made either through the Udrive app or website. Customers can use their smartphones to unlock the cars as the vehicles have keyless access. Drivers get the benefits of free petrol, free parking in most areas and keyless access and it means that they have the freedom to go anywhere at any time.
Hasib Khan, the CEO and Founder of Udrive said that Udrive is the first company to introduce this service in Sharjah providing the residents with a hassle-free mode of transportation. The cars will be available at hotspot locations across Sharjah. All new customers who register for Udrive will also benefit from a promotional free first hour so that they get an idea of how the service works. Unlike other rental companies, there will be no security deposits, and there is no requirement for minimum rental time. There will be no expensive border crossing fees as in the case of taxis. Thus, with Udrive, residents and visitors to Sharjah will now have one more option when it comes to convenient travel.
Udrive will be launching its service in Sharjah with a fleet of Nissan Sunny’s and Kia Picanto’s. All customers will have free fuel, parking and comprehensive insurance. Based on the oricing scheme, they will have to pay only for the time they drive with the pay-as-you-go service costing 50 Fils plus VAT per minute. The rate is capped after four hours. Once they use the car for 20 hours the Udrive is free for the remainder of the day, including 150 km free mileage.
Udrive currently has more than 20,000 registered customers, and records 600 trips per day with over 100,000 trips recorded in 2017.
To start using the service, customers just need to download the app and register or follow the same way of registration on the website. All they need is an Emirates ID, Driving License and Debit/Credit card. Those who don’t have their own card, can contact Udrive team for alternative cash payment methods. Tourists will also be able to use the service and will need their passport instead of the Emirates ID. They must also have a valid International Driving License recognised by the UAE government and which must be at least 1 year old.
