Jeep’s Newest Heritage Tribute: The Wrangler JL-2A Pays Homage to the Original “Civilian Jeep”
Jeep has unveiled the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A, the eleventh release in its yearlong Twelve4Twelve special-edition campaign celebrating 85 years of the brand. Orders open this October, the same month the campaign itself wraps up with its twelfth and final drop.
The Wrangler JL-2A takes its name and inspiration from the original CJ-2A, the first Jeep ever sold to civilian buyers after World War II, often considered the model that turned Jeep from a military vehicle into a consumer brand. It’s a fitting callback for the eleventh entry in a campaign that’s spent the past year revisiting different chapters of Jeep’s history, one special edition at a time.
Jeep’s Twelve4Twelve program began in November 2025 and has delivered a new limited-edition Wrangler (and often a matching Gladiator) on the 12th of nearly every month since, each one built around a different piece of Jeep heritage:
The JL-2A now follows as the eleventh release, with one final special edition still to come this October to close out the year-long celebration.
Jeep has confirmed the package will be available on the four-door Wrangler Willys platform starting in October, priced at an MSRP of $4,995. Early images show a tan/beige exterior finish paired with bright orange wheels and all-terrain tires, a styling choice that nods to the earthy, utilitarian look of the original CJ-2A rather than a modern, flashy special edition. The cabin retains the Wrangler’s standard digital dashboard and off-road-focused controls.
Jeep hasn’t yet detailed full mechanical specifications for this particular package, so it’s worth treating this as developing, more details are expected as the October rollout approaches.
What makes Twelve4Twelve notable isn’t any single special edition, it’s the approach. Rather than treating limited editions as simple inventory movers, Jeep has built a yearlong narrative around its own history, something that speaks directly to an enthusiast base that already treats ownership as identity, not just transportation. That’s exactly the kind of brand relationship Jeep has cultivated in the Middle East, where Wranglers are a fixture of weekend desert convoys, off-road clubs, and a strong local Jeep community culture that mirrors what’s seen at events like the Smoky Mountain Invasion in the US.
Whether the JL-2A or future special editions make it to UAE showrooms specifically hasn’t been confirmed, Jeep’s special-edition packages are often US-market exclusives, but the broader heritage storytelling behind the campaign is the kind of content that tends to resonate strongly with the brand’s following here regardless.
