Jaguar won Germany’s prestigious Golden Steering Wheel award in the mid-full size saloon category for its Jaguar XF, against strong contenders like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Volvo S90. The company also placed second in the Large SUV category, where the F-PACE emerged as the first runner-up.
In the 41st edition of the Golden Steering Wheel Awards, 36 new models competed in six categories. In the first round of the polls to pick the winners, millions of readers of Auto Bild and its sister publications spread across over 20 European countries, as well as the readers of Sunday paper Bild am Sonntag, chose their favourites. The 24 finalists were picked after the votes were counted and then the winners in each category were chosen by an expert panel of 67 jury members comprising chief editors of automotive publications, racing drivers, designers and other car experts to review their operating costs, driving dynamics, connectivity, and designs after thorough testing.
The Jaguar XF was picked as the winner in its category on the basis of its stylish design, luxury features, innovative technology and efficiency, as well as class-leading driving dynamics and refinement. The recent addition of all-wheel drive makes the XF offers a leading choice based on its all-weather traction, class-leading resale value, lower running costs and exceptional total cost of ownership.
Jaguar’s first performance SUV, the F-PACE, emerged with a strong second place finish in the large SUV category due to its winning combination of agility, responsiveness, every day usability and refinement making it the Ultimate Practical Sports car. The F-PACE has had an overwhelming reception from customers across the world and is one of Jaguar’s fastest-selling models ever.
Commenting on the award, Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said that winning the renowned Golden Steering Wheel award for the XF in one of the most demanding automotive markets and the toughest premium segment in the world, meant a lot to Jaguar Land Rover. He said the award highlighted the effort made by Jaguar Land Rover to deliver special, solid vehicles which have a distinct character. He went on to thank the experienced readers and the expert jury for their appraisal as well as the JLR team.
