For the first time in the Middle East, Honda Motor Co. Africa and the Middle East Office launched a model with Honda Sensing technology. The company debuted the 2016 Honda Accord Coupe in a grand manner yesterday at the Al Murooj Rotana Hotel in Dubai. The model will be available across all Honda showrooms in GCC. It is the ninth generation of the popular Honda Accord Coupe and the first in the region to have “Honda Sensing” comprising a suite of advanced safety features.
Another notable feature of the Accord Coupe is its sleek new shape to highlight its sporty aspect. Elements that have been modified include a restyled front and rear bumper fascia, a new grille, bold new tail light design and new design alloy wheels for all grades.LED lighting has also been extensively used with new design LED headlights for 3.5L V6 grades, and all grades having LED pipe guide daytime running lights (DRLs), LED pipe guide taillights for all grades, and LED Front Fog Lights to help in low visibility situations.
Interior
The interiors of the Accord Coupe offer the perfect blend of sophistication and advanced sport design for a futuristic feel. The cabin is spacious cabin and the upholstery is in fabric for the base grade and leather for the 3.5L V6 grades. The most striking technological feature in all grades is the hi-tech 8-inch TFT Intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) screen that serves as the hub for giving users assistance in a touch for a number of features, the premium audio and also ‘Remote Engine Start’ that allows drivers to start their vehicles in advance in order to activate the climate control system before they get into the vehicle While the base model lacks Navigation, the 3.5L V6 grades have Navigation. Even the base grade has Dual Zone A/C. The 3.5L V6 grades have i-Dual Zone A/C and in tandem with controlled noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), the cabin offers a quiet environment.
Power Train
Motorists who opt to buy the new Accord Coupe can choose from models with two petrol engine variants with Earth Dreams Technology – a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with CVT having an output of 185 hp and a 3.5-liter V6 engine with i-VTEC + VCM functions having an output of 276 hp. These engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The fuel consumption of the Accord Coupe is 16.4 (km/l) for the 2.4L EX grade and a 13.4 (km/l) in the 3.5L V6 grades.
Body and Safety
The main technological feature of the Accord Coupe is the GCC debut of ‘Honda Sensing’ in the top grade variant of the Accord Coupe. Honda Sensing is a set of driver-assist technologies that will help drivers to take note of things that they might miss otherwise and take pre-emptive action to either avoid accidents or to minimize their impact. The Honda Sensing features consist of adaptive cruise control which refines cruise control with the addition of a millimeter-wave radar and camera to maintain a safe following distance, a lane keeping assist system to gently correct the driver when he veers away from the center of the lane, a collision mitigation braking system to alert the driver and automatically exert brake pressure and a road departure mitigation system that uses torque and braking to keep the car within the lane and prevents it from drifting to the side of the road.
Maintaining lane discipline will no longer be an issue with the Lanewatch feature in the 3.5L V6 grade. It uses a camera installed below the passenger side window to display an expanded rear view of the passenger side road way on the Intelligent Multi Info Display (i-MID), showing cars up to two lanes. The rear parking sensors, which are standard in all grades, also assist the driver by visually displaying the parking space on the MID and rear view camera.
The other Honda active-safety features which exist in the new Accord Coupe include Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control Systems (TCS), Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS), Electronic Brake Distributor (EBD) and Hill Start Assist (HSA). The Accord Coupe also utilizes Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure technology to increase crash compatibility and the level of protection for the occupants.
The Accord Coupe also has received the highest available crash safety ratings and a 5 –Star Overall Vehicle Score from NHTSA and a similar rating of TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the IIHS (when equipped with CMBSTM) in the United States of America.
