Aston Martin has cause to celebrate. The company’s new model, the DB11 has won the readers choice award in the Sports category given by one of Germany’s top motoring magazines auto motor und sport. The annual autonis award is highly sought by automotive manufacturers.
The DB11 faced stiff competition as over 100 models vied with each other in ten different categories. In the 15th edition of the readers survey, over 18,000 cast their votes.
In the sports car category, Aston Martin’s DB11 received 36.2% of the votes, while the 911 from Porsche came second with 31.6% and the Jaguar F-Type SVR came a distant third with 13.7%.
The success of the DB11 will serve as a major cause to celebrate as it is the first model that has been launched by Aston Martin under its ‘Second Century’ plan. The model is notable for its pioneering aerodynamics, stylish and fresh design and the powerful new 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that was designed inhouse.
Thus, the DB11 signifies a new design era for Aston Martin and stays true to Aston Martin’s heritage of coming up with iconic cars like the DB2/4, DB5 and, the most recent model, the DB10 that was designed specifically for the James Bond movie “Spectre”.
The award ceremony was held in Stuttgart last week. Speaking at the ceremony, Aston Martin Creative Director of Exterior Design Miles Nurnberger, said, “The Aston Martin DB11 is the bold new figurehead of the illustrious ‘DB’ bloodline and an authentic, dynamic sporting GT in the finest Aston Martin tradition.”
He added that winning the prestigious award even before the DB11 is launched at the retail level in October highlights the outstanding achievements of the company’s design and engineering teams.
